Today’s Reflection: Jesus, you are the vine, and we are the branches. Please give us patience and hope when our branches are pruned by difficulties, frustrations, and failures. Thank you for the sunny summer days when our branches have borne fruit. Amen.— Fr. Dan Daly, SJ

Today’s Reflection: Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.

We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love. — Attributed to Sir Francis Drake, c. 1577

Today’s Reflection: The spirit of prayer gives time back to God; it steps away from the obsession of a life that is always lacking time; it rediscovers the peace of necessary things and discovers the joy of unexpected gifts. — Pope Francis from his book On the Family

Today’s Reflection: Almighty God, author of my life, help me learn to read what you have written on my heart. Give me discerning eyes and an untiring spirit to look within me in order to understand how to reach outside of me. And once I have begun to read you aright, give me the generosity to help others to read you, to sound you out one letter, one word of radical giving at a time. —Author Unknown
