Today’s Reflection: Jesus, help us to make spending time with you a priority. We have so many excuses for not doing so. Help us see that our excuses are nonsense. Help us to give ourselves permission to seek out your warm embrace. Help us be present to you as you are always present for us. Amen. — Peg Anderson. Today’s Reflection:First Sunday of Advent – Advent is a quiet contemplative time of waiting for the Light that will come and shine on us Christmas Day, rescuing us from the great darkness and hopelessness we experience in our daily lives. Advent then is a very special season of hope that links the coming of the promised Messiah in Jesus with the coming of Christ into our own hearts after a period of preparation, and with the coming of Christ again at the end of time. — Brother Victoire-Antoine D’Avila-Latourrette, A Monastic Year. Today’s Reflection: Lord, what am I when compared to this flower? What are you in giving this flower to me? How can I live my life to notice these simple gifts? The simple beauty of the flower stirs my need to know you better. I pray today, God, not to pretend to know you but to wait patiently as you reveal yourself to me over time. — from The Sacred Garden. Today’s Reflection:This is so Beautiful! – Winter In All Of Our Lives There is a winter in all of our lives, a chill and darkness that makes us yearn for days that have gone or put our hope in days yet to be. Father God, you created seasons for a purpose. Spring is full of expectation buds breaking frosts abating and an awakening of creation before the first days of summer. Now the sun gives warmth and comfort to our lives reviving aching joints bringing colour, new life and crops to fruiting. Autumn gives nature space to lean back, relax and enjoy the fruits of its labour mellow colours in sky and landscape as the earth prepares to rest. Then winter, cold and bare as nature takes stock rests, unwinds, sleeps until the time is right. An endless cycle and yet a perfect model. We need a winter in our lives a time of rest, a time to stand still a time to reacquaint ourselves with the faith in which we live. It is only then that we can draw strength from the one in whom we are rooted take time to grow and rise through the darkness into the warm glow of your springtime to blossom and flourish bring colour and vitality into this world your garden. Thank you Father for the seasons of our lives. — Author unknown Morning Offering is a daily post by Joe Barkovich who lives in his hometown of Welland, Ontario. Daily photo by Joe Barkovich.
