Today’s Reflection: A Cook’s Advent Prayer

What joy this brings me, Lord.  Thank you for guiding me into the kitchen for some time of silence with you.  The room fills with wonderful smells and I share tastes and samples with my family as they make extra trips through the kitchen on days like this.  Thank you for each and every one of these special people in my family.  They are like the ingredients of my own life, adding spice and heat and wonderful flavor and melding together into a unique dish designed to glorify you.

You know, God, cooking is quite a bit like my life.  It’s messy, I get careless and sometimes things don’t turn out as I had planned.  But in the mess of my life, that’s where I can turn to you.  Help me when I have to deal with being so imperfect.  Bless me with humility when I grapple with my own poverty.  Let me feel how deeply you love me, even when all I have to offer is scorched and humble.

Be with me Lord, in this kitchen today.  Help me to take the time in this intimate silence with you, to pray for each person who will eat this food.  Allow me to remember all of those around the world who have so little food, and bless those who share what little they have. — Creighton University Online Ministries

Today’s Reflection: Lord,
In the deepest recesses of my heart,
I know Your voice.
Yours is the voice that tells me:
“I love you, as you are, no matter what.”
Yours is the voice that tells me:
“You have all you need to set this world on fire.”
Yours is the voice that tells me:
“I’ve got you.”

Yet even knowing Your voice as I do,
I still get tricked
by the voice inside that asks me:
“Does he really love every part of you?”
by the voice inside that asks me:
“Are you really enough to make a difference?”
by the voice inside that asks me:
“Are you really sure he has you?”

I need your help, Lord,
to sift out Your voice from the rest,
to trust what I know to be true,
to silence what I know is not,
and to take a leap of faith. —Gretchen Crowder

Today’s Reflection: Prayer

God, Help me to hear your voice in the midst of this loud world.

Help me to be there for others who are searching for your voice.

Help me to live in gratitude for those in my life that help me hear you when it is difficult for me to do it alone. Amen —Kay Gregg

Today’s Reflection:  Lord God,
help me to orient my life toward you.
Help me to serve you rather than wealth.
Help me to prioritize those things that matter to you,
and forget about what the world values.
Help me to follow the path that you prepare for me.
Amen. —Jesuit Prayer team

Today’s Reflection: Talking with God means…
Praying words of praise
For the beauty of creation
Saying prayers of thanks
For friends and good times,
Asking God’s help
In all your decisions
Expressing sorrow
When you have failed
May you talk with God
Every day. Amen. — Daily TV Mass site

Today’s Reflection: Oh Jesus, meek and humble of heart, help me. From the desire to be esteemed, extolled, honored, praised, preferred, consulted, and approved, deliver me, Jesus. Deliver me from the distractions and fears that would keep me from hearing and seeing You. Help me, that when invited to cross the eternal threshold, I may do so with childlike candor and ease. —Adam Bohan, SJ
