Today’s Reflection: Grant us the grace, we pray O Lord, to listen to even voices that we consider strange or unfamiliar. May we exhaust one another with our listening, with our recognition, with our validation. May we never hesitate to hear your own voice within the words or cries of another. — Patrick Hyland, SJ

Today’s Reflection: Today, Lord, I choose to believe in you
    – not to try to go it alone –
but to believe in your loving care for me…

Today, Lord, I choose to trust in you
    – not to stress out in fear and panic –
but to trust that you’re always right by my side…

Today, Lord, I choose to live by your Word
    – not by my whims and fancies –
but by the wisdom and truth of your Word…

Today, Lord, I choose to walk your path
    – following your map and not my own –
’til I find you within me as well as beside me… — Fr. Austin Fleming, excerpt from “Today I Choose”

Today’s Reflection:

Note: Starting off the new year with a personal favourite:

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.

Nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think I am following your will
does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing.

I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire,
and I know that if I do this
you will lead me by the right road
though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore I will trust you always
though I may need to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me,
and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. — Thomas Merton, OCSO
