Today’s Reflection:  Prayer

Lord,
I ask:
“What if it doesn’t work?”
You reply:
Trust the process.”

I shake my head and ask:
“What if it fails?”
You reply:
Believe it’s all leading somewhere.”

Back and forth we go,
Me asking my worried questions,
You issuing your patient replies
until finally I ask:
“What if I am afraid?”
You reply:
Know I am right here.”

Amen.—Gretchen Crowder, Campus Minister at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas

Today’s Reflection: Lord,
In the deepest recesses of my heart,
I know Your voice.
Yours is the voice that tells me:
“I love you, as you are, no matter what.”
Yours is the voice that tells me:
“You have all you need to set this world on fire.”
Yours is the voice that tells me:
“I’ve got you.”

Yet even knowing Your voice as I do,
I still get tricked
by the voice inside that asks me:
“Does he really love every part of you?”
by the voice inside that asks me:
“Are you really enough to make a difference?”
by the voice inside that asks me:
“Are you really sure he has you?”

I need your help, Lord,
to sift out Your voice from the rest,
to trust what I know to be true,
to silence what I know is not,
and to take a leap of faith. —Gretchen Crowder

Today’s Reflection: Into your hands, Lord, I place all the predicaments of my life. I will handle the ones that I can, and I trust you to handle the ones that I cannot.— Kenneth E. Grabner, C.S.C., in Focus My Day

Today’s Reflection: Jesus, sometimes I am bold in my trust in you, other times I am overwhelmed by outside fears. Reveal to me my own attachment to my fears and help me to boldly journey out to you on the waters. Keep calling me Lord, and save me when I fall. Make me bold, trusting in you alone. —Nathan Krawetzke, SJ

Today’s Reflection: Heavenly Father,
As You prune the branches of our lives,
Grant us the grace to yield to Your loving hand,
To surrender to Your will,
And to trust in Your divine plan.

In the pruning process, may we find renewal,
May we grow in love, compassion, and mercy,
And may our lives bear abundant fruit,
Reflecting Your glory to the world.
Amen.—Jackie Schulte

Today’s Reflection: The Work of Christmas Begins

When the carols have been stilled,
When the star-topped tree is taken down,
When family and friends are gone home,
When we are back to our schedules
The work of Christmas begins:
  To welcome the refugee,
  To heal a broken planet,
  To feed the hungry,
To build bridges of trust, not walls of fear,
  To share our gifts,
To seek justice and peace for all people,
To bring Christ’s light to the world. by Michael Dougherty, a variation on Howard Thurman’s ‘When the Song of the Angels is Stilled’
