Today’s Reflection:  Prayer

Lord,

Help me to remember
what words can do:

They can hurt
They can invoke fear
They can divide

Help me to remember
what words can also do:

They can heal
They can invoke wonder
They can unite

It is so easy to be the first kind of voice in this world.

But I know that is not who
I was created to be.

Speak through me, Lord,
So I am the second kind of voice instead.

Speak through all of us, Lord,
So that the voice of love will win.

Amen. — Gretchen Crowder

Today’s Reflection: The Work of Christmas Begins

The work of Christmas begins: When the carols have been stilled; When the star-topped tree is taken down; When family and friends are gone home; When we are back to our schedules.

The work of Christmas begins:
  To welcome the refugee,
  To heal a broken planet,
  To feed the hungry,
To build bridges of trust, not walls of fear,
  To share our gifts,
To seek justice and peace for all people,
To bring Christ’s light to the world. — by Michael Dougherty, a variation on Howard Thurman’s ‘When the Song of the Angels is Stilled’

Today’s Reflection: MEDITATE ON –
I found it strange
yet perfectly balanced
that I needed my wounds
to heal my faith
and my faith
to heal my wounds. — Bodmin Hermit, a Franciscan hermit in Cornwall, England.

Today’s Reflection: PRAYER OF A PRODIGAL
Lord,
Give me the strength to take the next step, to follow the way that leads to you
In my daily circumstances.
Even when things don’t go the way I want,
Even when I don’t know how to talk to you,
Even when I don’t feel you,
Even when I am convinced you are not there,
And especially when I am about to give up.
With your strength, I know I can
Find my way to you.
And loving you,
I can hope and trust that you will always heal
What is so broken in me. Amen. — Fr. Goyo Hidlago
